Commemorating the Great Court at Ambarawa, Juang Kartika Day

Lensa Aktual. After reading the proclamation of independence, Indonesia has indirectly escaped the shackles of colonialism. However, the obstacle faced at that time was to keep Indonesia's sovereignty intact.

The Dutch tried to come back to Indonesia. The abundant wealth of Indonesia's natural resources made the Dutch try to reclaim their colonies. By piggybacking on the Allied troops, they began to visit the big cities.

The role of the TKR (People's Security Army) became dominant when trying to preserve Indonesian sovereignty. The battle is inevitable.

Ambarawa was one of the areas which was the scene of a major battle in mid-December 1945. The four-day war then ended on December 15, 1945.

In order to respect and appreciate the role of TKR members who died in Palagan Ambarawa, every December 15 is celebrated as Juang Kartika Day (formerly an Infantry Day).

Resistance

The presence of Allied Forces and the Dutch in Indonesia was not only to instill the seeds of new colonialism. They also tried to disarm and secure the Japanese army.
Reporting from Kompas Daily published on December 15, 1987, the incident that made Indonesia angry began when the Dutch installed their flag at Ambarawa.

Other incidents continued, Indonesian youth began to take a stand by attacking the Dutch army. Indonesian youth also took over the storage of weapons belonging to Japan which was controlled by the Dutch.

Because the situation was heating up, on October 20, 1945, the British HMS Grenroy ship docked at Semarang Harbor. Britain landed a battalion of elite Gurkha soldiers who had combat experience.

They were reinforced by artillery brigades and the aid of dozens of airplanes and attacking ship HMS Sussex.

Indonesia is not afraid. Three battalions from the Kedu Regiment, six from Purwokerto, seven from Yogyakarta, one joint regiment from Solo and four Balalyon Division Salatiga were demoted.

Strength is added to the people's army which increasingly adds to the banging power of Indonesian forces.

On December 11, 1945, Commander-in-Chief General Sudirman, who at the time was still based on the colonel, held a meeting with the Sector Commander of the TKR and the Warriors.

The presence of Sudirman to Ambarawa was aimed at arousing the spirit of TKR and the people after the death of Lieutenant Colonel Isdiman in the previous battle. Also read: November 9, 1945, Allied Ultimatum Triggers the Great Battle in Surabaya

Fight it out

TKR troops fought it out against the Allied forces reinforced by Gurkha forces. Colonel Sudirman ordered the TKR to expel the Allies as quickly as possible from the Dutch from Ambarawa.

On December 12, 1945 at around 04.00 WIB, the battle in Ambarawa flared up. Attacks are carried out simultaneously and suddenly from all sectors in layers.

This tactic referred to by Sudirman as a Supit Urang tactic or tactic of locking or confining opponents. As a result of this attack, the Allied forces were completely locked because the supply and communication with their parent forces in Semarang broke up altogether.

Ungaran was bombarded by Allied aircraft in order to open the way for its troops to move freely to various directions. In fact, air strikes were extended to Solo and Yogyakarta.

The spirit of the TKR and the army of the Indonesian people continued to flare up to finally be able to expel enemy forces from Ambarawa. The resistance given by the Indonesian people gives a lesson that something done together will get maximum results.

On December 15, 1945, the allies finally retreated to Semarang, and Ambarawa was completely recaptured. TKR proved himself that he was able to beat back even though he didn't have as much weapons as the enemy.
